Email To The Government

Dear, Mr John Key

Hello my name is Dylan Robinson I am a Year seven student of Pukekohe Intermediate School.

I think we should save Maui's Dolphins because they are critically endangered and are an icon to New Zealand.

There are approximately One Hundred and Eleven left in New Zealand. If we don't do anything about it they will become extinct.

We would be sorry that we didn't save the worlds smallest and rarest dolphin.

They are endemic to New Zealand and it would be really good if the numbers could rise. Our classroom which is Room 23 have studied Maui's Dolphins and are planning to adopt a one for thirty dollars a year and will name it. We have even had a guest from World Wild Life Fund named Victoria come in and speak to us about Maui's Dolphins.

We should take action and ban fishing nets in Maui's Dolphin habitats.

We should put up signs at Port Waikato saying 'No fishing nets in this area Maui's Dolphins live here' and if anyone disobeys that sign they get fined three hundred dollars.

I need to know what else we can do to help the Maui's Dolphins from becoming extinct.

Yours sincerely, Dylan Robinson

The World's Smallest and Rarest Dolphin

Room 23 have been studying Maui's Dolphins they are only found in New Zealand.
We have found also found out that they are the world's smallest and rarest dolphins. The Maui's Dolphins are critically endangered which means they will die very soon if we don't help them. There are only one hundred and eleven left in New Zealand that is a very low number for dolphins.
Maui's Dolphins have a dorsal fin that looks like a Mickey Mouse ear it is round they have white belly that looks like white flames. Maui's use echo-location which means they use sound waves to find food and when the sound reaches a small fish it bounces off the fish back to the dolphin and they catch it. To us the sound waves only sound like clicking noises.
Maui's Dolphins live in dirty murky waters so it is very hard for them to see there prey that's why they use echo-location.

Digital Classroom

I am in a digital classroom with sixteen computers. We have thirty one children in our class which is one computer between two children. I have learnt a lot in this class and we are a lucky class to have this opportunity to learn all about the apple computers and the programs they have on there such as Pages, Appleworks, Keynote, iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto and iTunes. We are the only class in our school with a computer suite it is awesome because we will advance in computer skills by a huge step and can teach others about apple eMacs in when are older.
